  • Overview

    The Staff Attorney will be responsible for legal matters within the organization which include, but are not limited to, corporate intellectual property matters, infringements, and contract administration. The Staff Attorney will also act as a liaison with outside legal counsel as needed.  

    Responsibilities

    • Draft, review, negotiate, execute, and track development, compliance, and renewal of contracts, including but not limited to client and vendor contracts, in collaboration with Finance and Revenue teams, and other teams, as necessary and appropriate
    • Identification and investigation of 3rd parties requiring intellectual property licenses, both revenue and non-revenue generating
    • Manage development, negotiation, and execution of 3rd party licenses, as well as tracking compliance and managing renewals in data system
    • Research and analysis of public policies in support of the business and mission at the federal, state, and local levels
    • Provide support on corporate matters including employment law
    • Other duties as reasonably required

    Qualifications

    • JD and license in good standing to practice law in Virginia
    • 3-5 years of experience in contract and license drafting and negotiation strongly preferred
    • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build and maintain relationships both within Teachstone and with customers and clients
    • Strong written and oral communication skills, including negotiation skills
    • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects and accomplish tasks within agreed upon timeframes through effective prioritization of duties and functions 
    • Self-motivated and able to work both independently to complete tasks and respond to requests, as well as collaborate with others to utilize resources and knowledge of others in identifying effective solutions 
    • Attention to detail in the preparation and review of contracts and agreements; strong legal drafting skills 
    • Strong computer skills and proficient with Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, as well as CRM system of Salesforce
    • Thorough understanding of general transactional law, including licenses and intellectual property management and oversight
    • Experience managing a contract database
    • Position is located in our Charlottesville, Va office
